City of Joy

I found these intimate images timidly hidden away in an ancient folder on my Mac. They were taken in 2005 with a digital point and shoot Fuji camera. At this time i was immersed in the whirlwind of the Corporate World and doing something like this was both an escape and an expression of creativity which is been the essence of me from an early age. I grew up in Calcutta and indeed its a City of immense Joy. When i was little and the Movie “City of Joy” was being shot in Calcutta, my maternal Grandpa one day bumped into the shoot in the slums and later told me that why did they have to show the worst parts of this lovely city and portray it in such a dark light. I feel joy doesn’t need a particular setting or circumstances to exist, its in our hearts. Grandpa never saw these images however if he did i think he would have felt the joy emanating from them.  The beautiful people in these photographs are form the heart and soul of this beloved city. Their grace and compassion inspires me to do what i do. Thanks for taking the time to browse them and to read this little story…
