ELEVEN GENIUS TIPS ON WRITING YOUR WEDDING VOWS

Writing your wedding vows can feel like a daunting task at first, but with some careful planning and consideration, you can create beautiful and meaningful vows that express your love and commitment to your partner. Here are some tips to help you write your wedding vows.

  1. Start early:

Begin writing your vows well in advance of the wedding day, so you have plenty of time to craft them and make any necessary revisions.

  2. Reflect on your relationship:

Take some time to reflect on your relationship and the reasons why you love your partner. Think about the moments that have brought you together and what makes your relationship unique.

  3. Decide on the tone:

Think about what tone you want your vows to have. Do you want them to be funny, romantic, or serious? This will help guide you as you write.

  4. INFUSE HOMOUR:

To share moments from your relationship that are heartfelt and humorous would bring not just you guys but every one else present at the wedding some beautiful smiles and would be touched by your ability to share those special moments.

  5. Keep it personal:

Make your vows personal and specific to your relationship. Use anecdotes and instances that have been deeply touching and meaningful for your relationship. Tip: If you are someone who keeps a daily journal then go through the early stages of your relationship and find details that are nearly forgotten by both of you, this would be an element of surprise and incredible intimacy.

  6. Keep it concise:

Keep your vows concise and to the point. This would ensure you have your guests captivated the entire time.

  7. be kind and sensitive:

This might sound obvious but trust me as a wedding photographer I have seen grooms and brides taken by surprise during the vows and in an embarrassing way, so this is why it’s very important that we are kind and sensitive towards our partners in what we say and share. “Like an arrow that leaves the bow, words too can never be retrieved once used”.

  8. Practice, practice, practice:

Practice delivering your vows out loud so you feel comfortable with them on the wedding day. You could even record yourself reading them to help you memorize them. Tip: Stand in front of the mirror and do it, all world leaders and successful people rehearse their speeches in front of the mirror till they feel comfortable and confident it what they are about to deliver. “The mirror always says the truth“

  9. Consider including promises:

Consider including promises in your vows. Think about what you want to promise your partner, whether it's to always support them, to be their best friend, or to always be there for them.

  10. Be sincere:

The most important thing is to be sincere. Your vows should come from the heart and reflect your true feelings for your partner from a place of love a child like innocence.

  11. CONSIDER INCLUDING POEMS AND QUOTES:

Poetry is long been the most divine means of expressing love and heartfelt feelings, if you can write a few words of your own thats awesome, else pick one of the greats within the field and share something that reflects you and your relationship in those lines. Below are some blog posts I have written over the years that share the works of some beautiful poets.

Lastly get a friend to record that moment when you share vows, even if it’s on an phone as it’s something truly precious and deserves to be treasured.
