35MM FILM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY- 9 REASONS WHY I LOVE IT

In 2012 while studying Visual Arts my first year’s entire portfolio was photographed on 35mm, Medium and Large Format Analogue Film. It was a slow and patient process with hours of work in the dark room, what it taught was the true discipline towards the medium. From light to framing and composition everything had to be right in the camera as precise as possible and to this day my philosophy of image making is been the same. The emergence of film photography in recent times has brought me back to my roots and along with some beautiful examples here are 9 reasons I love and adore this nostalgic medium…

  • Slowing Down: Film encourages a mindful, intentional approach, making every shot count.

  • Magical Colors: The tones and colors film produces are soft, timeless, and impossible to recreate digitally.

  • Creating Amazingness Within Limitations: With a limited number of exposures, film pushes creativity and thoughtful composition.

  • Less is More: Fewer frames mean each image is more meaningful and curated.

  • Embracing Errors: Happy accidents—like light leaks or grain—add character and authenticity.

  • Getting It Right the First Time: There's no instant review, so focus and preparation are paramount.

  • Being OK With Not Knowing: The mystery of not seeing results immediately adds excitement and anticipation.

  • The Surprise Factor: Unwrapping scanned negatives truly feels like opening a gift.

  • A Gift That Stands the Test of Time: Film images have a timeless quality, creating memories you'll treasure for decades.
